COMMUNISM IN CHINA
The tragedy of Tiananmen Square centered around Communism. Communism is a
form of government where everything is divided equally, between everybody. This often results in a large amount of poverty throughout the population, and wealth being distributed among few people. In a communist government, there are very few personal rights and a lot of censorship. Citizens do not have the freedom of the press or the freedom of speech. The communist government of China was created by Mao Zedong, the leader and founder of the People's Republic in China (PRC). During World War II, some people thought that the communist government would never work, although some people agreed with it. China became a Communist State in October of 1949, after World War II had ended. Ultimately, the lack of freedom is exactly what the protesters were fighting against.
